| WHAT IS "ENHANCED TRUE-ONLINE"? | |
DRS Universal Power Systemss enhanced technology offers your application all the advantages of a true on-line system plus the added protection of our patented Intelligent Voltage Selection TM (IVS) circuit and matching isolation transformer. This technology adapts to surrounding conditions, permitting operations from domestic, international and field generator power sources. The IVS monitors the input frequency and selects and seamlessly transfers to the most suitable input voltage tap. |

WHAT IS "TRUE ON-LINE"? |
Unlike other UPS technologies, in true on-line technology, the UPS inverter is ON and carrying 100% of the load during normal and battery modes of operation. A true on-line UPS supplies a continuous, controlled power source to connected equipment providing the best output voltage and frequency regulation of all UPS topologies. It is the only UPS technology that can provide frequency conversion and power factor correction (PFC).

WHAT IS INTELLIGENT VOLTAGE SELECTION(IVS)? |
Intelligent Voltage Selection or IVS is a DRS Universal Power Systems proprietary circuit that enables the Trusted Series/Rackmount, Rugged/Deployable, and Briefcase Series UPS systems to be deployed and operated worldwide. IVS works in concert with a multi-tap, input isolation transformer to automatically configure the UPS for nominal 100, 120, 220 or 240 VAC input voltages. IVS technology allows the UPS to operate from a wide input voltage range, thus reducing battery usage in extreme power conditions and increasing the life expectancy of the battery. In addition, its special inrush current-limiting feature minimizes the risk of tripping upstream overcurrent protection devices.

WHAT DOES THE INTERNAL INPUT ISOLATION TRANSFORMER DO? |
First, the internal input isolation transformer helps protect the UPS electronics from input power aberrations so that they can better protect the users' critical load. Secondly, it provides a separately derived source; this has two important benefits: 1) it corrects the damaging effects of line-neutral reversals, and 2) it establishes a re-referenced ground point eliminating common mode noise and potential ground loops among load equipment.

WHAT MAKES THE DRS Universal Power Systems ICEBOX UNIQUE? |
Environmental Power Protection - The ICEbox combines physical security, climate control, power conditioning, battery reserve, and remote management capabilities into a single, easy-to-install enclosure. Furthermore, the "plug and play" capability of the ICEbox enables the user to start-up sites quickly; shaving weeks or even months from the installation schedule.

WHAT AFFECTS BATTERY LIFE? |
Battery life is affected by temperature as well as the depth and frequency of battery discharges. The "shelf life" of batteries decreases with increased ambient temperature. This is particularly important if the UPS is to be stored without periodically recharging the batteries. For example, at a 40ºC (104ºF) ambient, battery life is reduced approximately 70% from what would be expected at 25ºC (77ºF). Even when the UPS is in use and the batteries are fully charged, higher ambient conditions will reduce "float" service life. Battery life is also affected by depth and frequency of discharges. The batteries are designed to provide approximately 200 full discharged cycles or over 1000 (30%) discharges.

WHY DO SOME DRS Universal Power Systems MODELS OFFER AN "AUXILIARY" OUTPUT RECEPTACLE? |
The "AUX" receptacle is used for less-critical loads that do not require the tight voltage regulation and outage protection provided by the UPS. The "AUX" receptacle is also for high current pulsing loads such as laser printers that should not be connected to the UPS output. Devices connected to the "AUX" receptacle benefit from the voltage conversion, transformer isolation, and re-referenced ground provided by both the input transformer and IVS circuit.

ARE DRS Universal Power Systems BATTERIES SAFE TO SHIP ON AN AIRPLANE? |
| Yes! The valve regulated lead
acid batteries contained in DRS Universal Power Systems products meet federal requirements
and conform to special provision A67 under the International Air Transport
Association, Dangerous Goods Regulations UN2800. Classified as
non-dangerous goods, these batteries are exempt from the requirements
of the Dangerous Goods Regulations; this makes them acceptable for transport
on both cargo and passenger aircraft. Get the MSDS (loaded in PDF format):
